Rugby Kit in Demand, The Football Backlash

Rugby kit sales could be on the rise as football fans are left furious after the World Cup.

Rugby versus football has always had more than a little rivalry, with rugby traditionally seen as a game for the well off and football the sport of the masses. But all that could change after England's poor performance in the World Cup that has seen fans react furiously to the team's incompetence. For many years, football has become an increasingly expensive sport, with players earning astronomical fees bumping up the cost of watching the beautiful game. But fans are increasingly tired of the excessive wealth footballers' demand in light of their poor performance on the pitch.

Rugby Kit in Hot Demand

Rugby kit could be in hot demand as more sports fans look for an alternative sport. The tabloid fury at England's performance at the World Cup isn't surprising after the 0-0 draw with Algeria resulted in Rooney being booed on the pitch and an angry fan yelling at David Beckham. One enraged fan barged into the dressing room to angrily confront Beckham. Disgruntled England supporters may switch their hopes for national sporting success to rugby after Rooney said to the TV camera after the match: "It's nice to see your own fans booing you."
Rugby has a far more alluring track record as a national sport epitomised by Jonny Wilkinson who gained an OBE for his integral part in helping England win the 2003 Rugby World Cup, scoring the winning drop goal in the last minute of extra time against Australia. Wilkinson inspired a whole new breed of Brits to don rugby team kits and join the winning sport.

Disillusioned with Football?

The fact that Fabio Capello is paid over £6million a year to coach the England team is a figure that is causing some bitterness when their performance on the pitch is so poor. Even Capello told the press after the Algeria game that: "We missed too many passes, lost too many balls. It was not a good game. We have to do better."
Rugby fans are in no doubt that the game beats football hands down. The world of football has been ruined by excess and fashion whereas rugby has kept its feet firmly on the ground. Unlike football, rugby is a family-friendly sport without the hooligan aspect that tarnishes football – opposition fans often socialise after rugby games in clubhouses and have a more sporting approach. It's not surprising that sales of rugby team kits could be on the rise as the sport edges ahead of England's failing football scene.
